Life goes on.......................and all that stuff.

I am quite a 'public' person these days. That is to say I have formed a persona around my Art and Beadwork which I am happy to let people into, only sometimes it gets a little strained, and I disappear from view for a while. The last month has been, to put it mildly, a little strained. I have also been trying to figure out just how 'public' I want to be, and the answer is - as much as I want to be!
A few weeks ago I went to my doctor with a 'lump in my throat', she sent me for an endoscopy, they sent me for a CT scan (after taking five biopsies), the result was that I have oesophageal cancer - a chunk of nasty stuff about a centimeter up from my stomach. The good news is that it seems not to have spread, I'll know next Tuesday, and as such is curable. Fairly big operation, but it can be chopped out and thrown in a jar at this stage. So. No 'outpourings', no prayers, no invoking the great god of beadweavers, and no negativity!
Nina and I have already been through the bit where we checked my life insurance to make sure it was up to date - everything has parameters, we did the bottom one - now we're on the top one.......................it's all good news!
So. Now you're up to date, and you can see why I haven't been as active online lately - it wasn't easy keeping it a secret until we knew for certain. I'm not going to do a 'this is my battle with cancer' blog, but I will keep you up to speed on how things are going.
Time to get back to the beads....................I've got workshops to design for!

  3. OK. Thanks for sharing the news with us. You are brave for doing that. I would most likely just hide in a closet.
So I won't outpour. I'm with NEDbeads. Just a hug.

  4. What sort of stitch would I use to surround the hug I'm sending you?

  5. Well, the only control you have over this is to do what those in the know say you should AND to keep a positive attitude, which you seem to have. Its a good sign that it hasn't spread. Good Luck, Peter. This is another thing you will overcome.

  7. I hear that oesophagus(es, i??) are "really stretchy" ( worked in health in a previous life) Hope the chopping out goes well. BUT "i've got workshops to design for"- here's a pony??? Blimey those Dartmoor ponies must have really dextrous hooves! Probably cos they are smaller than normal horses!

  8. Now this is to prove that surrealism didn't die with Dali, Magritte, et al. It is alive and well and occupying most of my mind!
Thanks for all the comments guys - I'll let you know the outcome on Tuesday of my 'how are we going to fix him?' appointment.

  9. What a b**ger. I am sure it won't keep you from designing in your head during the treatment. You can't keep a good man down. Love to both of you.
