.................leaving only the grin.

Ever get those periods where everything seems surreal and disjointed? I'm having one. I have finished 'Karen', my Ice Queen necklace, and I think she is beautiful. I also know I won't need to look for packaging to mail her in when she sells, this is because she won't sell. My designs are very eclectic in the wardrobe department, most of them will not 'go with anything', unless you're planning to take the limo to the Oscars...............or you are an artist who loves sparkly adornment, in which case you will have probably already made one for yourself!
This is what is commonly known as a 'crisis of confidence', all artists get it at some time, I know of excellent beadwork designers who will not look at other beader's work because they will start to believe their own stuff is inferior and stop designing.  The ideal place to be is in a niche where there are very few other artists - less competition, but also less mass appeal! 'Tis a quandary.
I will post pictures of 'Karen' when I get the Swarovski crystals to behave and stop pretending they're different colours when they are, in fact, just crystal.

  1. I don't agree ! I would wear your creations in any occasion ! Your work is gorgeous, rich... you bead like a woman (and it is a real compliment, lol !)

  2. Peter - Your work is not office wear. But it's stunning, uncluttered and could be worn with any simple elegant dress to dinner, to the theater, to a party, a wedding, dancing. Need I go on?
As the self-appointed "Plain Jane" of the group, I often envy your sense of proportion, balance and elegance of your pieces. They ARE wearable. You wouldn't have to be meeting the Queen. And remember what just sold of Ned's? That's not exactly blue jeans & sweatshirts material either. Patience. Courage.

  5. Peter, I think the clean lines of your designs make them incredibly wearable. I don't think you have to worry....plus when you only make one it only takes one person in the entire world to buy it :)
Crisis of confidence is part of being an artist, show me a good artist and they'll be able to tell of their self doubt. Personally I don't really trust an artist who claims to not experience this...sort of like a skinny cook :)

  7. Well, I have to 2nd & 3rd what the others are saying, your work is incredibly wearable, you just have to know how to work it.

And there is no such thing as "just a crystal," they rule our universe. Or at least the rule mine in 2nd place behind the toddler.
